Last night I attended a rather large business event put together by my local council. It’s fantastic to see that they are working so hard to help local businesses grow. My way of supporting my community is to source local businesses where ever possible or at least in Australia.
It was great to connect with locals in business from small to large. One in particular was so great encouraging me to make a quick video about networking, I’m like “noooooo”, she’s like yessss, so i said ‘why don’t you do it?” she says “I’’ll do it if you do it!” so I said, “you go first!” and she did! And then I did! maybe it was encouragement and not taking it too seriously or maybe in was the Moscato! Crazy right, if you know me personally you know I am never short of something to say!
I was asked quite a few times last night “what type of photography do you do?” Well, I’m consider myself and been recognised as a professional portrait photographer and digital artist, it is where my passion lives! Portrait for me expands to corporate, personal portraits and weddings. My style will range from a timeless classic minimal look to a fine art piece created just for you. For me, most importantly it’s the connection created between you and I, the camera, the best lighting for you, to make it uniquely yours, how you would like to present yourself? remembered? your legacy? how would you like to give of yourself to generations to come? For any portrait, its all about team work, while we chat in our first consultations I get to know a little or a lot about you, to a place where you are comfortable and what you would like and happy to suggest, occasionally I hear ‘I can’t model”, well unless you are a professional model, all you need to be is just be you and have fun, the rest is my job. I don’t like to rush any shoot as we all take different times to just go with it, although an hour is usually enough time. I will usually post only one image online with your permission, yes, I know you are excited by the end of your shoot! I do however like to take my time with editing and portraits are personal and should be viewed by you first.
So I looked up the words Portrait Photographer and this is what I found,
A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason, in photography a portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often shows a person looking directly at the painter or photographer, in order to most successfully engage the subject with the viewer.
Of course it can be more, limited only by the imagination.
The word “photography” was created from the Greek roots φωτός (phōtos), genitive of φῶς (phōs), “light” and γραφή (graphé) “representation by means of lines” or “drawing”, together meaning”drawing with light”.
Portrait photography is a popular commercial industry all over the world. Many people enjoy having professionally made family portraits to hang in their homes, or special portraits to commemorate certain events, such as graduations or weddings. Since the dawn of photography, people have made portraits. The popularity of the daguerreotype in the middle of the 19th century was due in large part to the demand for inexpensive portraiture.
So what are you waiting for? everyone deserves to be acknowledged, loved and be love. To book for a studio shoot in Taylors Hill or on location.
I don’t believe that “families” are black and white, they come in all shapes and sizes, each with their own morals, standards and beliefs. I can’t believe how many times I said to my children statements sounding like our parents that I thought i would never say! we take what we learn and add our own spin to it raising the next generation, Maybe they didn’t get everything right but I so appreciate now the lessons I was taught growing up, what I do know is they did their very best. While I raise my girls they are raising a mother, a mother to be her very best and forgiven when i make mistakes, the most beautiful gift they have taught me is unconditional love and so much more. The one thing I know for sure no matter how your family is made up, putting their well being first, parents through mutual respect for each other and their children will raise amazing kids, they are the future. I am so very proud of them in the most humble way. Last week my little one interviewed me for school homework and asked what my greatest achievement was? I said “the 3 of you” she’s says that’s not an achievement! I said “yes it is! in fact you are and will always be my greatest achievement! I can’t wait until they have their own kids one day then they will know i am right!!!! Im so in love with these 3 girls! God bless all the children around the world. Last week I wrote a letter to myself with all my girls have taught me while raising a mother.
I refer to my girls as my gift, my joy and my miracle, all three a blessing.
A few weeks ago I was asked to photograph a large family portrait, while the easiest thing would be to take them out on a location shoot, they much prefer a studio portrait, the welcomed challenge is on! so this morning I set up in room 2 in my Taylors Hill Studio to ensure they all fit in the frame, with this set up there are endless possibilities of styling them to create the perfect family portrait and plenty of natural shots. It will look a little different once the family is on set and that’s where I workout the final touches, every professional portrait required careful planning for it to be successful, I spent less than an hour this morning doing just that! Preparation is everything.
Euphoria, from the moment you hold your precious cargo in your arms and then there is this, breastfeeding , the most intimate moments a mother will cherish forever.
For me it was not so easy with my first one but we finally got the hang of it, I did have to give her a bottle as well, as mums we just need to do what we need to do to ensure they get their proper nutrition.. This was a home visit newborn shoot at just 12 days new. I’m looking forward to photographing this little one over the next 12 months in my studio in Taylors Hill.
This was beautiful to photograph and thank you Mummy for allowing me to share this image.
Every year for my girls’ birthday we organise a photoshoot!!! mostly based around what they are doing or passionate about, Lil Miss Sparkles has been learning how to play guitar since the beginning of the year so she wanted a rock chick shoot with her first axe, God I love her!!!! She likes to play the piano a little so she agreed I could use it as the stage. She has sat beside me the whole time making sure I edited her pic just the way she likes it, so it was black and white and her guitar red, then i said i got a few bits i want to add, she finally agrees and I got the thumbs up! She’s tough client!
Each side had it’s own unique Buddha, these temples were built by families to worship together.
Bagan is an ancient city in central Myanmar (formerly Burma), southwest of Mandalay. These amazing temples are the main attraction, there are thousands of them spread across the plain, each so very unique. A great time to view all of them is at sunrise from a hot air balloon or you can climb up most of them, but get there early to get a front row seat, no easy to climb up with gear on your back, they are steep! Sunset is also spectacular to witness, there is a man made tower, for a few bucks you can go all the way to the top and thankfully plenty of room to watch the golden sun go down, it was an amazing day to explore.
The world is full of beautiful children, a rather shy but curious little man, I don’t get much time to do street photography any more although a blessing when I get to travel to far away magical places, meeting so many amazing people, both young and old, I found this little man in a town call Haa in Bhutan, so very precious, with his mothers permission i took just two photos before he ran inside to hide.
Well here’s a blast from the past, just over 3 years to be exact, just as well I keep 2 copies of all my images for at least 3 years, in saying that most go back to 2009! Occasionally I get contacted for copies, So what does one do after 3 years? you re edit with new skills of course!
These kids were all absolutely amazing today, the strength and skill, all with beaming smiles, Pardon the pun! It’s great to see team spirit and how they all support and encourage each other, the little ones were just adorable, a big day but they all had fun! At Maffra Gymnastics.
Another great stop off along the way …….
The Yallourn W power station commenced operations in 1974 with four generating units commissioned between 1974 and 1982. Yallourn W represents the last in a long line of generation plant at the Yallourn site, with initial power generation commencing in the mid 1920’s.
Every hour 2400 tonnes of brown coal is used to boil water into superheated steam to drive four turbine generators. These turbines have a combined rated capacity of 1480 megawatts of electricity which is enough to supply around two million homes. The power station employs a closed loop cooling system utilising hyperbolic cooling towers.
