Swell Time

Waves_Phillip Island_Swell_Sea_OceanOut on a whale watching cruise yesterday off Phillip Island, unfortunately we didn’t spot any, lots of playful dolphins and seals, There were lots of swells, rain and even hail stones at one point which made it all the more exciting. I love the way the waves dance and create quick moments of natures art. Victoria, Australia. You can purchase this image here.

Winemaker

There days I just want to play like a child, think like a child and colour outside the lines. Allowing myself this gives me peace by just playing. A great way to fly off into the compass of the mind, through away what overwhelms and learn my way back to inner quiet. I was not striving for perfection or an award with this image, just going with the flow.

I met this lovely man about 3 years ago at Bradmills, Yarraville, selling his winemaking grapes, I spotted him for a distance pulled up and went over and had a chat, he was from Adelaide. I asked if i could take his photo and he put of a little show, I have 4 great images of this lovely bloke, always great when people laugh and have fun and don’t take it serious. We said our good byes, I thanked him, he gave me a bag of grapes for my ride home, sweet.

My Editing Work Flow

I thought i would share with you my work flow, or my selection process, these images were taken late 2015 and I have only ever shared one, Like most photographers i am emotionally attached to my images, the sites, the sounds, the feelings of the day so sometimes it makes it really hard to choose my best, I usually do a quick view, quite often stopping at the one that jumps out without looking at the rest, excited much?! I always upload as soon as i get in, the few times I haven’t somehow they have been lost, Mystery! Although not happened lately, but that’s another story. Time frame here about two hours, walking, looking, smiling, shooting, sitting and watching and of course playing around with the water. Having a right ol giggle with the beach to myself, who knows i may be posted as someone else’s random, looking like a nutter, waves crashing in and lifting up the tripod. I remember when i first started I just about shared everything, a little tougher on myself these days and need to get harsher and if i only get one image on the day, that is satisfying enough, it’s more than a shoot, its my way of life, what brings me peace and joy. Photography makes me travel, travel makes me photograph, I love the randoms I meet , my 10 minute friendships, funny how strangers can share so much, Or the really quiet days just focusing on what i see while everything else just melts away, heaven.

lizzardcollage

All images from shoot, minus a few, Most of the time i will try a pano shoot for each location. I import into Lightroom and copy as dng on an external drive under year, category, location, star rate, add keywords, create a collection under year and category, then colour the ones I want to edit.

1st Selections with the pano that didn’t work and one that did.

And of course colour, sometimes even imaging things i would like to encounter on the beach. A little photoshop fun.

Torquay, Great Ocean Road

Over the past few years, with and without my girls I have be covering a stretch of beach that i am absolutely in love with, 3 times now i have parked at a different carpark only to realise I had been here before, well almost.. what was different, the tide of course, and you can’t get around the rock, I think more trips at low tide so I can see what more she hides, then go back at the right time, well it’s always the right time in Torquay, I just love it!_DSC2126-EditPrint

The Chicory Kiln, Bacchus Marsh

This brick kiln, located near Bacchus Marsh, was built around 1885 for Messrs. Pearce Brothers, and was used for processing chicory roots, which once baked and ground are frequently used to complement or even wholly substitute coffee. The brick layer was J. F. Taylor, and carpentry was by Mr. Murphy. It was in operation for a relatively short period, being referred to 25 years later as an “unused chicory kiln” and “the old chicory kiln.” In the years following it was suggested that the building could be repurposed for tobacco leaf drying, fruit canning, or even housing an electricity plant. One wall contains advertising for Dr. Morse’s Indian Root Pills (“For the Liver”), with an older slightly different version of the ad showing through as the top coat of paint deteriorates. Today the area immediately surrounding the building is still used for agricultural purposes.

Gordon, Victoria

A little trip out to Gordon, Victoria

Last time I was out there i joined a Pano workshop, being a little late in the day I decided to go back a couple of days ago to recreate this pano, while i was there I met David who was renovating this charming old building while he told took me through and told me about the future plans, a Middle eastern restaurant, yum. I have to say he is doing a great job the owners will be pleased., he also told me about the history of the place.

Part of the building was an old pub and butcher, back in its day.

A stay from Mother Theresa, and some great old pics of what it looked like added to a great 10 minute story, then time to set up for my pano shot.

Our conversation finished with the heads up about a town close by, coming up next!

I for one am looking forward to dining in at Gordon Bleu

69 Main Street, Gordon, 3345

You will find this new restaurant in front of Gordon Town Hall in the main street.

Melbourne Central

My own spin, was at Melbourne central, out for the day, a little street photography of the city.

It was early, i got to watch the sun warm through the glass as i laid flat on my back, no one seemed to care as they walked around me.

These are the days…..

Keilor Hotel, Galway Arms Bistro

A fantastic place for a special portrait, I’ve enjoyed a few meals and drinks here over time. I love the character of the old pub. I was lucky enough to have access to the seller where they hold private functions, a little spooky, a great conversation starter thats for sure.
